4th Annual Companion Day
Thank you to all students and staff who contributed gifts for the nursing home visit, which took place Dec. 9. Companion Day was originally started by the medical department, and this year it expanded to the entire school. Approximately 250 gifts were collected! On Dec. 9, Marcy Waldie, Margaret Heustis, Robyn Smerdel and Paolina Taglienti visited the LifeCare Center of Paradise, and distributed the gifts. Photos are on the main bulletin board (outside the library). We are already looking forward to next year!

Winter Break is coming! Don't forget all students (except those in Massage Therapy or the modular Medical Administrative Assistant) will be on break from Dec. 25-Jan. 1. Your classes will reconvene on Jan. 2, 2007! Also, the school will be closed on Monday, Dec. 25 and Tuesday, Dec. 26. Our offices will be open Dec. 27-29. If you need to see your chairperson, or anyone else, please call ahead (702-567-1920) and make sure they are available; they may be taking vacation time during that week.

I would like to take this opportunity to talk to you, our student body. As the new campus President, it is my pleasure to serve as leader of this great college. Our faculty and staff remain committed to providing each student an excellent educational experience. My vision for LVC is a college people attend to improve their lives not just their skills.
As I have walked around the campus and met many of our great students, I am hearing stories about successes and challenges. However, the common theme is about the multiple things each person is juggling. I understand that the demands on your life can seem overwhelming and that there never seems to be enough hours in a day to get everything done. I wish I could tell you this will change it. It won’t. As time passes you will get better at managing, or, as we say today, multi-tasking. One thing is for sure, you will realize improvement in your life and it will be seen by others.
One word of advice to every student I will offer - attend all of your classes. I know each of you know this but the reality is many of you don’t. In 20+ years of managing adult educational postsecondary colleges, I have found that the students with the best attendance have the following BIG 5:
1. Better grades
2. Better attitudes
3. More job offers
4. Better communication with faculty/staff
5. Visions of success
In support of this, I have challenged our faculty and staff to challenge you as students for the month of December. In response, they have created the attendance raffle contest. Members of our Senior Management Staff have been visiting your classes and handing out raffle tickets for daily attendance during the month of December. The drawing will be held on Dec. 22 and a 19” LCD TV will be given away.
Guess what. Each day you are in attendance you will be the true winner and be able to achieve the BIG 5.
